words..

cannot describe the feeling that i felt yesterday. It was something rather to witness than be heard of. Dancing with my family as well as the other great teams that also performed shows so much potential in our community to grow as people. Also, just watching and being able to support other teams was mind blowing. EVERYONE did such a crazy job. Also, everyone i walked by would either say “good luck” or “great job”, or even had little side jokes that we would crack while walking in the hallways even if we didn’t know each other. Knowing that this was body rock, we knew that we had to turn it up. We knew we had to go that extra mile to push ourselves to the limits. Im pretty sure the feeling was mutual in that ALL those dancers had struggles, late night rehearsals, and other hindrances to help get where they got. By far, this was definitely my favorite body rock in that it was my 1st and also because of what the community has grown into. We’re getting there yall. So proud to be apart of what we have been blessed with. Thank you.

New Week…

It’s time for a change in the way I handle my time, money, and ability to accomplish goals.

I must stick to my word in writing this, in that I know it’ll be all worth it in the end.

“If there is no struggle, there is no progress.” - Frederick Douglass

I am not a writer… Poem #1.

They say I’m a writer, but writer I am not

Instead I speak… I shout out my thoughts.

The thought that cringes the mind, the thought that illuminates the thought of thinking.

It all comes full circle as the jumbled thoughts start linking.

It becomes an idea from a spark in the mind.

It’s hard to believe what in the mind you can find.

Theres theories, emotions, secrets, and facts

But most above all, there lies those hidden cracks.

The cracks that you don’t share with people around

The ones you don’t speak of, the ones without a sound

They remain hidden, for no one to see

So, with this, I ask who are you to judge me?

Like I said in the beginning, I am not a writer

I fight with words, therefore, I am a fighter

A fighter for change, A fighter for the kind,

No one will ever know what goes on in my mind.

Unless I speak of it, say it, or yell,

I am a not a writer, if you couldn’t really tell.

To The Dance Community…

We learn to play an instrument to enjoy playing music. We learn a sport to enjoy playing games. We learn to dance because we enjoy the art. It shouldn’t be all about the hype on “what’s in and what’s out”, “oh look how clean they are” or “they should have placed.” To be honest, as a dancer, we shouldn’t care about any of that. We all need to focus more on the art itself and the real, raw feeling behind it. who cares about winning, placing, and the dam trophy? It honestly doesn’t matter. Someone once told me, “The trophy itself is the journey up the mountain.” Once you reach that mountain, it’s time to set foot on a new one. It should be about the feeling of being inspired from one another, getting together as a community, and appreciating for what we all have to offer in this world we call our “Dance Community.” We all need to live up to the word “community”. We all need to give back, become one, and show the world what this “Dance Community” means to all of us. We all are guilty of not doing these things, so why not? We are the future of the dance community.. Let’s bring it back to the way it was before. When shows weren’t about the competition… when it was all about showcasing our craft to inspire our peers. Sharing our stories and experiences from one dancer to another. There is always a way to change the game. It’s just a matter of us acting up on it. Anything is possible. Let’s do this.

Sincerely,

Edwin “J.R.” Robles
